The Wright County Catholic Churches are in the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis.

Delano

There have been four inter-related Catholic churches in the Delano area.

St. Peter Church (established in 1865)

This church was established in Delano by German immigrants, before Polish immigrants arrived.

  • The first church was built in 1865
  • The second church was built in 1874
  • The third church was completed in 1913

  • Started by 50 Silesian Polish families in Franklin Township
  • Initially was a mission church to St. Peter Church and later St. Joseph Church, both in Delano,
  • Became an independent parish in 1940
  • Since 1991, it shares a pastor with St. Boniface in St. Bonifacius, MN.

St. Peter Church and St. Joseph Church parishes merged in 1988 to form St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, named after a Polish Saint. Both of the churches are being used with the merged parish.
