Kashubia

Kashubia (Kaszuby) is a very small area in the northern Pomeranian region of Poland along the Baltic Sea. It extends from Gdansk, at the mouth of the Vistula River westward to Szczecin, at the mouth of the Oder River. It is about 100 miles in length and 60 miles wide. Pomerania was originally inhabited by various Slavic tribes, including the Kashubians. Throughout the centuries, Kashubians were ruled by the Teutonic Knights, the Swedes, the Germans and the Prussians. Kashubians have a unique background, including their own language which is currently being brought back after fading out over the last century.
